Halloween is scary....I have way too many decorations.
I have pretty ones and ugly ones and silly ones. Here are a few of the ugly ones....
....and one very recently acquired silly one.
I even have spooky decorations with sentimental value. My mom gave me this cute little witch back in the 1980s. She bought it at Knott's Berry Farm while visiting my dad who was working in California at the time. I think it's scary I can remember that....and maybe a little sweet as well.
My friend's father bought me this quirky/cool Garfield pumpkin while he was visiting her at Baylor. He took a big bunch of us out to lunch and then proceeded to buy us all Garfield Pumpkins. I guess we looked particularly, pathetically Garfield Pumpkin starved...which is fine by me. I still love my Garfield Pumpkin.
I got these scruffy and tough burlap pumpkins on sale at Pier One not long after moving to Canada. We arrived on November 1st; I soon went on my first Canadian pumpkin buying spree only to discover they had already celebrated Thanksgiving, Halloween was over (obviously) and there were no pumpkins to be found.....anywhere in Canada. Thank goodness for little burlap pumpkins. I still planned on celebrating Thanksgiving by the U.S. calendar.
Here is our coolest Halloween decoration. Did you know that you can dress up your pumpkin as a ninja for Halloween? Thank you Mr. Potato Head for your continued ingenuity.
As evidenced by one of our most precious Halloween decorations, our daughter is an artistic genius. She sculpted this frightening little witch while in preschool...around the age of twoish or threeish. The hair is the piece de resistance.
It's funny. As I was pulling out these decorations, I didn't expect to pull out several sweet little tag-along memories as well. It's scary and awesome and surprising and wonderful to uncover remembrance and introspection in an unexpected place.
Halloween is scary, but, today....it was a little bit more than that for me.
I know, I know...it's crazy. ;)
